Step by step
How to search permits in Monroe County.
Start with the office for the property's address. The official portal shows the permit's current status, inspections and documents.
Find the permitting authority
Check whether the address is inside Key West or Islamorada, which issue their own permits. Otherwise the permit belongs to Monroe County Building and Permitting (Building Department).
Open the official permit search
Open Monroe County Oracle Permitting and Licensing (OPAL), which runs on Oracle OPAL. Apply for permits and pay fees online, and search current permits via 'Explore Your County' or by parcel.
Search by address or permit number
Search with the street address or the permit number where the portal offers those fields, then open the record for its status, inspections and documents.
Ask the office about older records
If a permit is missing online, ask Monroe County Building and Permitting (Building Department) (305-294-4641) how to request it. Older permits are not always in online systems.
