City of Jacksonville Public Works, Building Inspection Division issues building permits for Jacksonville and Duval County, except cities that run their own building departments. Jacksonville Beach and Atlantic Beach issue their own permits inside city limits. This guide links each official permit search and explains how to look up a record.

Step by step
How to search permits in Duval County.
Start with the office for the property's address. The official portal shows the permit's current status, inspections and documents.
Find the permitting authority
Check whether the address is inside Jacksonville Beach or Atlantic Beach, which issue their own permits. Otherwise the permit belongs to City of Jacksonville Public Works, Building Inspection Division.
Open the official permit search
Open JaxEPICS (Jacksonville Enterprise Permitting, Inspections and Compliance System). Online submission is required for all permit types; the portal also handles permit and inspection information, inspection scheduling and Certificate of Use applications (account required to submit).
Search by address or permit number
Search with the street address or the permit number where the portal offers those fields, then open the record for its status, inspections and documents.
Ask the office about older records
If a permit is missing online, ask City of Jacksonville Public Works, Building Inspection Division (904-255-8500) how to request it. Older permits are not always in online systems.

Jacksonville's Building Inspection Division sits within the Public Works department and is open Monday to Friday, 7 a.m. to 4 p.m.
